Planning 2027 Actions and priorities
Strategic Planning
Working with growing coalition to plan future actions
We are collaborating with our growing network to shape MAIAN’s strategic goals for 2027. Together, we are identifying shared concerns, learning from our recent campaigns, and discussing where collective action can make the greatest difference.
Building off National Freeze AI Walkout
Building a movement
Working with Irreplaceable, MAIAN organized outreach to students on more than ten campuses across Massachusetts ahead of the October 20 national day of action.
We are building on that action by organizing students to suggest policies for lawmakers and planning another rally for November 12.
We are also leading workshops on organizing strategies and briefing lawmakers, helping students turn their concerns into policy proposals and collective action.

Connecting communities and policy
Legislative engagement
MAIAN will continue its work of having volunteers visit state legislative offices, built relationships, and advocated for Massachusetts AI safety protections. Our work has included briefings with more than fifteen Massachusetts state and federal offices so far. We have collaborated with ControlAI to connect them to concerned offices, such as Representative Jim McGovern to draft and release statements about superintelligence.
Organizing a Convening
Exploring the impacts of AI on children
We are working with partners to understand AI’s impact on children’s well-being, education, and development, and how these concerns connect with data policy, climate change, labor, and the broader risks posed by powerful AI systems.
Our plan is to start with small partner groups, then bring families and communities together with organizations, policymakers, unions, and elected representatives for an open-door convening focused on practical solutions and collective next steps.
A date and registration details have not yet been announced here.

Call In for AI Safety
Helping people learn about AI safety and contact their legislators.
MAIAN led the “Call In for AI Safety” campaign, with creative production by Creatives for Collective Action and support from the Future of Life Institute.
The interactive phone booth public-art installation helped people understand AI policy and contact their legislators in support of Massachusetts AI safety protections.
The campaign generated over 2,000 conversations and 300+ calls, alongside interviews and news coverage.
Campaign materials describe advocacy for the Transparency in Frontier Artificial Intelligence Act within the MassWins Act. Check the bill record for the latest legislative status.
